2nd International Oceanographic Congress, Moscow

The second International Oceanographic Congress, organized by the Soviet Government and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, was held in Moscow from 30 May to 9 June 1966 under the auspices of UNESCO.

This congress, which was attended by 1767 participants from 57 countries, was one of the most important marine science congresses ever held. Its subject of discussion was 'oceanographic research for the benefit of mankind'.

The opening ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the Moscow State University and the closing ceremony at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses (photo: Moscow State University, Press Service).
